Samuel John Gurney Hoare, Viscount Templewood (1880-1959) British Conservative politician, 1929. Known as Sir Samuel Hoare until 1944 when he was created Viscount Templewood. He held the positions of Secretary of State for Air (1922-1924 and 1924-1929), Secretary of State for India (1931-1935), Foreign Secretary (1935) and Ambassador to Spain (1940-1944). The Battle of Salamis fought between an Alliance of Greek city-states and the Achaemenid Empire of Persia in September 480 BC in the straits between the mainland and Salamis, an island in the Saronic Gulf near Athens. It marked the high-point of the second Persian invasion of Greece which had begun in 480 BC
