EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a historical artifact that holds great significance in the military history of France. The sabretache featured in the image was used by General Charles Lefebvre-Desnouettes, a prominent figure in the French Army Staff during the early 19th century. The sabretache itself is an exquisite piece, adorned with intricate designs and symbols that reflect its owner's rank and status. However, what makes this particular sabretache even more intriguing is its story of capture and redemption. General Lefebvre-Desnouettes met his unfortunate fate at Benavente in Spain on December 29,1808. He was leading a detachment of Chasseurs when they were ambushed by British and German dragoons. It was during this encounter that the sabretache became a prized souvenir for a member of the 7th Regiment of Light Dragoons. He went on to participate in Napoleon's Russian campaign of 1812 and fought valiantly at Waterloo in 1815. This remarkable artifact serves as a tangible reminder of one man's resilience amidst adversity and his unwavering dedication to serving his country.
