EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the 12th Cavalry regiment in 1910, showcasing their distinguished uniforms and camp setup. Created by Reginald Augustus Wymer, a talented watercolor artist, this artwork is now housed at the National Army Museum in London. The 12th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry has a rich history dating back to its formation in 1861 during the Indian Mutiny. This cavalry unit played significant roles in various military campaigns, including the Abyssinian campaign of 1868 and the 2nd Afghan War from 1878 to 1880. After serving valiantly in Mesopotamia during World War One, where they undoubtedly faced numerous challenges and displayed immense bravery, the regiment underwent an amalgamation with the 11th Prince of Wales's Own Lancers. This merger resulted in the creation of a new force known as the 5th King Edward's Own Probyn's Horse. In this image, officers and soldiers can be seen standing proudly alongside each other. The attention to detail within their uniforms showcases their dedication to maintaining a strong military presence. The camp surrounding them serves as a reminder of their commitment to duty and readiness for any situation that may arise. As we admire this remarkable piece from Fine Art Finder, let us remember and honor those who have served bravely throughout history as part of regiments like these.
