EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a Posset pot from the late 17th century. Crafted by an English School artist, this ceramic masterpiece measures 17x26 cm and is currently housed in the Manchester Art Gallery in the UK. The pot features a lobular shape with a circular footring, leading to a flared neck adorned with strap loop handles on either side. The S-shaped spout emerges at the base and gracefully separates from the body at the neck. The exquisite craftsmanship of this posset pot is enhanced by its bluish-white tin-glaze, which beautifully complements the delicate hand-painted designs adorning its surface. Birds and insects can be seen amidst flowering stems, painted in two shades of blue and black trek outlines. A Chinese scroll border surrounds the neck, interrupted only by an inscription that reads "1696: ANN: : PALTHORPE:". The spout also boasts a Chinese scroll border while horizontal dashes adorn the handles. Although time has caused some darker blue patches to slightly lift from the surface, this posset pot remains an extraordinary example of traditional pottery artistry. Its ornate decoration and intricate details transport us back to a bygone era where beauty was found even in everyday objects like pots. Thanks to Bridgeman Images' exceptional photography skills, we are able to appreciate every brushstroke and curve of this remarkable piece without having to travel all the way to Manchester Art Gallery ourselves.
