Isaac Newton (1642-1727), English mathematician, astronomer and physicist
Isaac Newton (1642-1727), English mathematician, astronomer and physicist. Newtons discoveries were prolific and exerted a huge influence on science and thought. His theories of gravity and his three laws of motion were outlined in his greatest work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, (1687) and he is credited with discovering differential calculus. He also formulated theories regarding optics and the nature of light that led to him building the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705, Newton is buried in Westminster Abbey, London

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Sir Isaac Newton, one of history's greatest scientific minds. Born in 1642, this English mathematician, astronomer, and physicist left an indelible mark on science and thought with his groundbreaking discoveries. Newton's most notable achievements include formulating his three laws of motion and theories on gravity, which he outlined in his monumental work "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica" published in 1687. Additionally, he is credited with discovering differential calculus and making significant contributions to optics. The image showcases Newton holding a reflecting telescope, a testament to his pioneering work in understanding the nature of light. His profound impact on society was recognized when he was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705. Today, Newton rests eternally at Westminster Abbey in London as a symbol of scientific brilliance. This mezzotint print serves as a reminder of his immense contributions to mathematics, physics, and astronomy during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Captured by an unknown creator but preserved through time by Heritage Images for future generations to admire, this print pays homage to the genius that was Sir Isaac Newton.
