A captain kneels before the duke. The port of Antwerp is visible to the right of a block of houses. This vibrant oil painting captures the momentous occasion of the Joyful Entry of the Duke of Anjou in Antwerp on 19 February 1582. The scene is filled with a colorful procession, as horsemen and footmen pass by a gate of honor, captivating the spectator's gaze. At the center of it all, riding atop a magnificent steed and adorned in a scarlet cloak, is Francois, Duke of Anjou himself.
