EDITORS COMMENTS
This image showcases Queen Alexandra of Denmark (1844-1925), the beloved wife of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. Born in Denmark as Princess Alexandra of Denmark and Greece and Albania, she was the daughter of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Princess Louise Rasmussen-Levetzau. Alexandra's striking curly hair, adorned with intricate lace, adds an air of elegance and grace to her regal presence. Alexandra married Prince Edward, who would later become King Edward VII, in 1863. Their union brought an end to a long period of mourning in Britain following the death of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, in 1861. Queen Alexandra was a popular figure among the British people, known for her kindness, intelligence, and her dedication to numerous charitable causes. The photograph, taken during her later years, captures the essence of Queen Alexandra's timeless beauty and her enduring legacy as the wife of King Edward VII. The intricate lace veil and her regal attire further emphasize her status as a British monarch. Alexandra's life was marked by tragedy as well as triumph. She lost her eldest son, Prince Albert Victor, in 1892, who was next in line to the throne. However, she went on to raise her surviving sons, King George V and Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, who both succeeded to the throne. This photograph is a testament to the life and times of Queen Alexandra, a remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on British history as the compassionate and devoted wife of King Edward VII.
