EDITORS COMMENTS
Hilarious Comic Postcard from the 1930s: "A Visit to the Doctor's!" In this classic British comic postcard, we find a humorous take on a doctor's appointment in the thirties. The scene shows a doctor, dressed in his formal attire, examining a patient with a puzzled expression on his face. The patient, a man with a pained expression and a distended stomach, clutches a heavy brass threepenny bit in his hand, looking rather sheepish. The caption above the image reads, "3d Appointment Fee Paid in Full!" This playful reference to the newly introduced heavier brass threepenny coin is sure to bring a smile to the viewer's face. The older, silver threepenny coins were lighter and smaller, making this new coin quite a novelty and a bit of a burden for those accustomed to the old ones. The doctor, with a stethoscope around his neck and a medical chart in hand, looks at the coin with a raised eyebrow, as if wondering if the patient has paid the full fee for his appointment. The patient, with a sheepish grin, holds up the coin as if to say, "Here you go, doctor!" This lighthearted comic postcard captures the essence of the 1930s, with its humorous take on everyday life and the introduction of a new coin that caused quite a stir. It's a fun and funny reminder of a simpler time, when a visit to the doctor could bring a bit of laughter along with the medicine.
