EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the Duke of Cornwall Public House, located in the vibrant area of Gipsy Hill in London. The red brick facade of the pub, adorned with ornate detailing and the distinctive "Duke of Cornwall" sign, exudes a sense of history and tradition. The image transports us back in time, inviting us to imagine the lively conversations and camaraderie that once unfolded within its walls. The Duke of Cornwall, a cherished local institution, was a popular watering hole for residents of SE19 and beyond. The pub, which was situated on Gipsy Hill, was known for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. The photograph, taken prior to July 2018, offers a snapshot of a bygone era, a time when the pub served as a hub for the community, where friends gathered to share stories and raise a glass. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Duke of Cornwall Public House was no more. Demolished, the building that once housed this cherished establishment is now a memory, leaving behind only the memories and stories of those who frequented it. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the role that pubs play in our communities, as places where connections are made and memories are forged.
