EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the Star PH, a historic pub located in Crayford, Greater London. The Star PH, which stands for Public House, was once a beloved local watering hole and gathering place for the community. As of July 2018, the pub, with its distinctive red brick facade and ornate signage, had been closed and converted into residential property. The Star PH was once a proud part of the Charrington and Company Limited's extensive network of pubs. Charrington's, a well-known name in the British pub industry, operated numerous pubs across London and the South East of England. However, the Star PH, like many other traditional pubs, could not withstand the changing times and economic pressures. The pub's closure marked the end of an era for the residents of Crayford. The Star PH had been a hub of activity, where friends met for a pint, families gathered for meals, and the community came together for various events and celebrations. The loss of the pub was deeply felt, leaving a void in the social fabric of the area. Despite its closure, the Star PH remains an iconic part of Crayford's history. Its red brick walls and ornate signage continue to stand as a testament to the pub's rich past. This photograph serves as a reminder of the role that pubs play in shaping the character of communities and the importance of preserving their history.
