After receiving her secondary education she worked as a governess for eight years. Marie moved to Paris and read Physics at the Sorbonne, receiving a scholarhip which allowed her to move back to Poland to take a second degree in Mathematics. She married Pierre Curie in 1895 and their research into radioactivity resulted in a joint Nobel prize in 1903. Marie succeeded Pierre in the position of Professor of Physics at the Sorbonne after his death, and through her research she isolated pure radium. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the brilliance and determination of Marie Curie, a trailblazing physicist and chemist whose groundbreaking research on radioactivity revolutionized the field of science. Born in Poland in 1867, Marie Curie's insatiable thirst for knowledge led her to pursue higher education despite facing numerous obstacles as a woman in a male-dominated society.
After moving to Paris and studying Physics at the Sorbonne, Marie's dedication and intellect earned her a scholarship that allowed her to further her studies in Mathematics back in Poland. In 1895, she married Pierre Curie, with whom she conducted pioneering research into radioactivity that ultimately resulted in them being awarded the Nobel Prize in 1903.
Following Pierre's untimely death, Marie continued their work and became the first female Professor of Physics at the Sorbonne. Her relentless pursuit of scientific discovery led her to isolate pure radium and earn another Nobel Prize in 1911 - making her the first person ever to receive this prestigious award twice.
Marie Curie's legacy as a fearless pioneer continues to inspire generations of scientists around the world. This print serves as a timeless tribute to her extraordinary achievements and unwavering commitment to advancing our understanding of the natural world.
