EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful protest placard, bearing the message "Afghanistan time to go," is a poignant reminder of the global opposition to the wars on terror in Afghanistan and Iraq that took place between 2001 and 2014. The placard was printed and distributed by the Stop the War Coalition, an organization established in 2001 to coordinate campaigns and demonstrations against these conflicts. The image captures the spirit of the protests held in various cities, including Manchester on September 23, 2006, London and Glasgow on March 15, 2008, and London on October 24, 2009, November 20, 2010, and October 8, 2011. The placards were designed by renowned British graphic designer David Gentleman. The protests were associated with Operation TELIC in Iraq, which commenced in 2003 and ended in 2009, and Operation HERRICK in Afghanistan, which began in 2001 and concluded in 2014. This photograph, taken in 2011, encapsulates the determination and conviction of those who took to the streets to voice their opposition to these prolonged conflicts.
