Soult's military career began in 1785, and he rose through the ranks to become a marshal of France in 1804. He served under Napoleon Bonaparte and played a significant role in several major battles, including Austerlitz and Wagram. After retiring from the military, Soult entered politics and was appointed as a peer of France in 1815. He served as the Minister of War under King Louis-Philippe from 1834 to 1836. In this portrait, Soult is depicted in full military regalia, adorned with the insignia of his rank.
