The Place de Hotel de Ville, the town square and central hub of St. Quentin, stands desolate and transformed. German military transport wagons occupy the square, their rusted metal and worn tires a stark contrast to the ornate signage of the surrounding buildings. At the center of the square, the grand Theatre Royal, once a cultural beacon of the town, now serves as a War Cinema (Kriegs-Kino).
