Four bungalows have been built at Alveston for retired C of E clergy and their wives
Four bungalows have been built at Alveston for retired C of E clergy and their wives. The land they are built on was given by Mr. John Docker, an village resident. Every diocese is being pressed to co-operate with Pensions Board in making provision for retired clergy, most of whom have to spend their latter years on an inadequate pension. The new homes will be occupied by clergy who have served in parishes in the Coventry diocese. In future, when a bungalow is vacated, the first choice will be given to an ex-Coventry diocese parson, but, if there is not one to take up the residence, a minister from another part of the country will be offered the chance to move in.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of a significant development in Alveston during the 1950s. Four charming bungalows stand proudly, serving as a testament to the generosity and compassion of Mr. John Docker, a beloved resident of this quaint village. These homes were specifically built for retired clergy from the Church of England and their wives, who often found themselves facing financial hardships in their later years. The image symbolizes an important movement within every diocese to collaborate with the Pensions Board in providing suitable accommodations for these dedicated individuals. The Coventry diocese takes pride in welcoming its own former parsons into these cozy abodes whenever possible, ensuring that they are cared for by familiar faces and surrounded by cherished memories. However, if no ex-Coventry diocese parson is available to occupy a vacant bungalow, ministers from other parts of the country are given an opportunity to make it their new home. This inclusive approach highlights the unity among clergymen across different regions. As we delve into this snapshot frozen in time, we witness not only architectural beauty but also witness faith-based communities coming together to support those who have devoted their lives to serving others. It serves as a reminder that even amidst rural landscapes like Alveston's serene surroundings, acts of kindness can flourish and leave lasting imprints on generations to come.
