The Avro 504L seaplane, a former WW1 wooden trainer was widely used

The Avro 504L seaplane, a former WW1 wooden trainer was widely used, mostly with a wheeled undercarriage, by numerous companies and individuals for joy riding from 1919 through to the mid 1930s.
The Avro 504 was the aircraft type in which so many people had their first flight. The picture was taken in the Isle of Wight during August 1919 where Captain F. Warren-Merriman was flying one of a large fleet operated by the Avro Transport Co.
After landing his seaplane by the coast, some interested female bathers decided to get a closer view of Captain Memmans plane.
Captain Merriman returned the complement by taking one of the bathers for a short flight in the craft.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment of pure joy and excitement during the early years of aviation. In the image, we see the iconic Avro 504L seaplane resting on the sandy shores of the Isle of Wight in August 1919. This former World War I wooden trainer was widely used by various companies and individuals for pleasure flights from 1919 until the mid-1930s. The Avro 504L holds a special place in history as it was often the aircraft type that introduced countless people to their first flight experience. It symbolizes an era when aviation was still a novelty, evoking feelings of awe and wonder among those fortunate enough to take to the skies. In this particular scene, Captain F. Warren-Merriman is seen piloting one of many Avro seaplanes operated by the Avro Transport Co. After safely landing his plane near the coast, a group of curious female bathers couldn't resist getting closer to marvel at this magnificent flying machine. To everyone's surprise and delight, Captain Merriman decided to share his passion for flight with one lucky bather by taking her on a short aerial adventure. The expressions on their faces capture both exhilaration and trepidation as they prepare for takeoff. This remarkable photograph serves as a nostalgic reminder of an era when aviation was still in its infancy but held boundless possibilities for exploration and adventure.
