A coach bound for Holland and carrying 43 members of the Corps of Drums of Coventry
A coach bound for Holland and carrying 43 members of the Corps of Drums of Coventry School of Music, left the Cheylesmore School, Mile Lane, yesterday, after a send-off from the colonel-in-chief of the corps, Mr. E.W. Pendleton, Chief Constable of Coventry. Nine seats were removed from the 52-seater coach in order to accommodate the instruments of the corps members, who were led by their commanding officer, Mr. J.T. Rose. The corps will take part in the International Music Festival in Purumerend, Holland, but will be staying during their 10-day visit in the city of Alkamaar as guests of the City Fathers. In return for board and lodgings, the corps will give musical demonstrations and parades in the city. A wooden plaque, which has been decorated with the Coventry crest by members of the corps, will be presented to the officials of Alkamaar by Mr. Rose, together with literature on Coventry and its cathedral. Mr. J.E. Parbury, founder of the Coventry School of Music, was at Cheylesmore to see off the party.
Our photograph shows Mr. E.W. Pendleton talking to the 40 members of the drum corps before they left for their tour of Holland.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1966, we witness a momentous occasion as a coach carrying 43 members of the Corps of Drums of Coventry School of Music embarks on an exciting journey to Holland. The departure took place at Cheylesmore School, Mile Lane, where the colonel-in-chief of the corps, Mr. E. W. Pendleton, Chief Constable of Coventry bid them farewell. To accommodate their musical instruments, nine seats were removed from the 52-seater coach. Led by their commanding officer, Mr. J. T. Rose, these talented musicians will be participating in the International Music Festival in Purumerend but will reside as esteemed guests in Alkmaar for ten days. The corps has graciously agreed to showcase their exceptional talents during their stay by providing musical demonstrations and parades for the City Fathers who have kindly offered board and lodgings in return. A wooden plaque adorned with the Coventry crest was meticulously crafted by members of the corps and will be presented to Alkmaar officials along with literature about Coventry and its magnificent cathedral. Amongst those present at Cheylesmore was Mr. J. E Parbury, founder of Coventry School of Music who came to bid farewell to this remarkable group before they embarked on their Dutch adventure. This nostalgic photograph captures a heartfelt moment between Mr. E. W Pendleton and his dedicated drum corps just moments before setting off on what promises to be an unforgettable tour filled with music and cultural exchange.
