Dunkleosteus prehistoric fish, hunting

Dunkleosteus prehistoric fish hunting a Cladoselache shark, artwork. These two species lived in the Devonian period (408-360 million years ago). Dunkleosteus was a large predatory fish that had plates of sharp bone within its jaws instead of teeth. It was a placoderm fish, and had a heavily-armoured head and a scaleless body. Some species of Dunkleosteus are thought to have reached lengths approaching ten metres. Cladoselache was a genus of early shark that was very common during the Devonian period. It had a long streamlined body and deeply forked tail that made it a fast swimmer

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork captures a thrilling moment from the depths of the Devonian period, showcasing the ancient battle between two formidable creatures. In this scene, a Dunkleosteus, an imposing prehistoric fish with its unique bone plates for jaws instead of teeth, is seen hunting down a Cladoselache shark. The artist's intricate attention to detail brings these long-extinct species back to life. Dunkleosteus was an apex predator of its time, boasting a heavily-armored head and scaleless body. Some individuals are believed to have grown up to ten meters in length, making them truly fearsome hunters. On the other hand, Cladoselache was an early shark that thrived during this era. With its streamlined body and forked tail enabling swift swimming abilities, it too possessed remarkable predatory skills. The underwater setting adds depth and realism to this mesmerizing illustration. As the duo engages in their primal dance of survival and dominance beneath the waves, one can almost feel the tension building as they navigate through their watery domain. This artwork not only showcases nature's incredible diversity but also serves as a reminder of our planet's rich history. It offers us a glimpse into a time when these magnificent creatures roamed Earth's oceans millions of years ago – reminding us how much there is still left to discover about our ancient past.
