EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning bronze and silver statue represents the ancient Egyptian god Set, also known as Setekh, Sutekh, or Setesh. Set was a significant deity in Egyptian religion, serving various roles including the god of the desert, storms, and foreigners, as well as the god of darkness and chaos. The statue dates back to the 19th and 20th Dynasty, around 1300-1080 B.C., during the New Kingdom period of ancient Egypt. Set is depicted in this statue wearing the pschent crown, which is a combination of the red crown of Lower Egypt and the white crown of Upper Egypt, symbolizing the unification of the two lands under one ruler. The god's animal form is depicted as a man with the head of a desert animal, possibly a pig or a bovid, reflecting his association with the wild and chaotic aspects of the desert. The intricately detailed statue is currently housed at the Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum, established in 1883, is renowned for its extensive collection of ancient art and artifacts, including this magnificent representation of the god Set. The statue's preservation and display at the museum allows us to appreciate the rich history and mythology of ancient Egypt and the significance of its gods and deities in the lives of its people.
