Thomas Willis, 17th century English physician, 1742. Willis (1621-1675) was the first man in modern times to notice the sweetish taste of diabetic urine in Diabetes mellitus. He studied the brain and nervous system as is indicated by the skull with cranium removed and the spine on the left of the picture. Willis was one of founders of the Royal Society when it was established in 1660
