Antares / Rho Ophiuchi region
Antares/Rho Ophiuchi region, optical image. This colourful region lies in the constellations Scorpius and Ophiuchus. The blue area at upper right is the triplet star Rho Ophiuchi, embedded in the reflection nebula IC 4604. This nebula does not emit light of its own, but reflects light from the star and appears blue due to blue light being scattered more than red light. The large orb at lower left is the supergiant star Antares (Alpha Scorpii), next to the yellow emission nebula IC 4606. This nebula emits light due to its gas and dust clouds being ionised by radiation from the stars. At right is the star Sigma Scorpii with its pink emission nebula Ced 130, and at lower right is the dense globular star cluster M4 (NGC 6121)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Antares/Rho Ophiuchi region, a vibrant and colorful spectacle in the night sky. Located within the constellations Scorpius and Ophiuchus, this optical image showcases several celestial wonders. At the upper right corner, we are greeted by the triplet star Rho Ophiuchi, nestled within the ethereal glow of reflection nebula IC 4604. This nebula enchants us with its radiant blue hue, created as it reflects light from Rho Ophiuchi. The scattering of blue light surpasses that of red light, resulting in this coloration. In contrast to IC 4604's reflective nature, at lower left stands Antares (Alpha Scorpii), a supergiant star emitting a warm golden glow. By its side lies emission nebula IC 4606 which emanates luminosity due to ionization caused by radiation from these stellar giants. To our right is Sigma Scorpii accompanied by its pink emission nebula Ced 130, adding another layer of enchantment to this cosmic tapestry. Lastly, at lower right resides M4 (NGC 6121), a dense globular star cluster that adds depth and complexity to this celestial panorama. This extraordinary photograph serves as a reminder of humanity's fascination with space exploration and our continuous quest for knowledge about these distant realms. It invites us to marvel at the vastness and splendor of our universe while igniting curiosity about what other mysteries lie beyond our reach.
