Enos the astrochimp
Enos the astrochimp. Enos the chimpanzee being prepared for insertion into the Mercury-Atlas 5 (MA-5) capsule. MA-5 was an American unmanned spaceflight of the Mercury program. It was launched on November 29, 1961 and orbited the Earth twice before splashing down off the coast of Puerto Rico. MA-5 was planned as a close approximation of the upcoming MA-6 manned orbital mission. Enos training was more intense than that of Ham, the Americans first chimp in space, because Enos would be exposed to weightlessness and a higher g-force for longer periods of time
