Piccadilly Circus. 19th-century photochrom (photographic lithograph) of horse-drawn carriages and buses in the road junction of Piccadilly Circus, London, England, in the 1890s. The aluminium Eros statue (actually depicting Anteros) was unveiled in 1893 on Regent Street, as part of the Shaftesbury Monument Memorial Fountain. The building in the background (the London Pavilion, 1885) forms the corner between Shaftesbury Avenue (left) and Coventry Street (right). At the time, it included a Spaten Restaurant, one of a chain of German luncheon bars and buffets found in London. This photochrom is from the Detroit Publishing Company
