A Coventry marching band is hoping to take top honours at a national band contest held at the Albert Hall tomorrow. The Bluebirds Girls Drum and Flute Band have been busy going through their routines since December in readiness for the big day. The 37-strong group are taking part in the national corps of drums section of the national youth band competition, and are confident of success. Assistant band director Cheryl Chester said: " Everything seems to be right this year. The girls
have been working very hard and we re sure we ll do well." After all their hard work the Bluebirds routine of marches and songs will last just 10 minutes. The Albert Hall competition will highlight bands from all over the country and the various contests go on all day. Last year the group took third prize at the
Albert Hall in the national wind band section. Around 40 girls aged 11 to 17 from Coventry and Warwickshire are members of the Bluebirds, who are based at the Whoberley Community Centre in Coventry. The band began in 1982. Future bookings include an appearance at the Royal Tournament on July 14.
